How to Automatically Poke Back Friends on Facebook

How to Automatically Poke Back Friends on Facebook

Poke is a feature led by facebook to get attention of any user, well you can compare it wit the Buzz option we had in Yahoo Chat, so we used to click on Buzz and then the other person's chat used to vibrate and make sounds to get their attention, its somewhat same but yes off course it does not make your screen vibrate but if leave a notification without any message or anything but just saying that person poked you and you can poke him back to say yes I remember you :)
So now manually poking back to many person's might be a big problem so we have simple solution to this thing by making this process automatic. Now we have two options by which you can make this thing automatic. The one is by using the chrome extension that will work only in chrome and the other one is Userscript that will work in both Chrome and Firefox.

Auto Poke Back using Chrome Extension

poke-all-for-chromeWell Poke All for Chrome extension gives you the possibility to poke all your friends back all together with one click. Well yes it even has that automatic feature which you can select and every poke will be reverted back automatically. So now you can install this extension only in chrome.
So now after installation just visit Facebook and click on this hand icon in your status bar now you c will see all your pokes you can select Auto Poke or just click on the Poke All option.

Auto Poke Back using UserScript

Well there is even a simple userscript that can be installed in Chrome, Firefox and Opera browser, so Facebook Autopoke userscript does the same job but its totally automatic. So you will need Greasemonkey installed in your Firefox browser to get this script working.
For the chrome browser you can install this script directly but you will need to follow this easy tutorial on installing 3rd party extension and scripts in chrome.
So that's it now you can every Poke you receive will be reverted back automatically, if you find any problem do comment.

Listen to Music with Friends on Facebook while facebooking ;)

How to Listen to Music with Friends on Facebook♥

Listening to music and singing along together with your friends can be a wonderful and memorable experience but you can only do that when you are physically together. But here’s some good news. The whole experience is about to change because even from home, you can now listen to music, new and old, with your friends, on Facebook.
Facebook Music
With the new Facebook ‘Listen With’, you get to listen to music on Facebook and share the experience with your friends in real time. No status updates are required, instead the music you play will automatically be reflected on your chat sidebar on Facebook and your friends will be able to join in, and even chat about it. With more friends listening, the chat can even turn into a group chat.

Playing Music from Facebook

To listen to music from Facebook, first log in to your Facebook account.

1. Go to Facebook Music

When you have logged in, head over to the Facebook Music page (http://www.facebook.com/music) and you will see a list of trending albums with music tracks powered by Myspace and Saavn. There’s also Spotify and Rdio but currently the use of these two are only supported in a few countries.
Facebook MusicYou can also open the music page from your Facebook wall by accesing it from the left menu under the “Apps” category.

2. Add application to Facebook

When you are in the Music page, pick any music you’d like to play and a pop-up window will ask you to add the service to Facebook. Simply click on the “Add to Facebook” button.
Add to Facebook
Note that the pop-up window above is to add the Myspace application only. You will be asked again to add new apps should you want to play music from Spotify, Rdio or Saavn.

3. Play!

Once added, the music application will open a new tab on your browser (or new window, if not supported) and you will be redirected to the Myspace or the Saavn player page. No action is required, simply wait for the page to load and the selected song will be played automatically when it is ready.
Myspace Player
Just so you know, the next time you want to start playing a song from Facebook, you will see a pop-up window asking if you would like to open a new tab/window to start playing the song.

Find out who is listening to Music

Facebook Music updates itself automatically, and you will be able to check who is listening to what, in real time. This also means that your friends will be able to know if you are listening, so they can join you or comment on your activity, or start a conversation.
There are several ways to find out if your friends are listening to music.

A. Facebook Wall

On your Facebook Wall, check out the status updates on the right. If your friend is playing music, you will be able to see the traction. Click on the traction status to see the playlist in detail, comment to start a conversation and click “Play” to start playing the music.
FB Status Bar

B. Facebook Timeline

On the Facebook Timeline, you will be able to check recently played music statuses and this will be updated automatically. Simply click the play button to play the music or hover for more details.

C. Facebook Chat sidebar

On your Facebook chat sidebar, there will be a music symbol updated next to your friend’s name if they are listening to music at that point of time. This feature is however currently only available for music played on Spotify and Rdio. If you listen with Myspace or Saavn, you may need to wait for this feature to be available.

Listen to music with friends

Now you can already listen to music on Facebook, and check if your friends are listening too. What about listening together with your friends and also chatting about it in real time? Right now, you will only see this feature if Spotify and Rdio are available in your area.
Listen With
When this is available, simply hover over your friend’s name (one with a music symbol next to it), and a new pop-up will show with music details. Click on the “Listen with” button to listen to the music, and just start chatting. When there are more friends listening together, the chat will automatically become a group chat.

Convert Your Tweets Into A Published Book

♥ Convert Your Tweets Into A Published Book♥

Twitter lets you post very short updates of a maximum of 140 characters each, and over time, these tweets become an interesting snapshot of our daily lives. However, there is one very apparent problem with Twitter. It simply moves too fast and the scrolling makes it hard to read all your previous tweets.
Twournal
There are many ways to document your Twitter data, be it in an info graphic or even extracts of tweets in the form of analytic reports. But would it be more interesting if you could document your every single tweet in a book?
Twournal is here to make that possible. You can now read your own tweets like you would read a real book. Twournal (Twitter Journal) is a third-party Twitter application that uses Twitter API, to transform your last 3,200 tweets into a published format. You can then choose to print your Twournal into a PDF ebook which is free....

1. Sign in with Twitter

To convert your Tweets into book form, firstly, go to the Twournal website and click on the button ‘Sign in with Twitter’.
As usual, Twitter will need you to authorize access before you can proceed to use the service offered by Twournal. Simply click on the button ‘Sign In’ to proceed.

2. Customize your options

Once you have authorized the access, you will be directed to a page where you will be able to customize your printing options.

  1. In ‘Features’ you will see a few options, such as the choice to add a picture in the printing, or add replies to your tweets, etc. Note that these replies are from your followers to you. Before completion, don’t forget to include your email address at the bottom of the page.
    Features
  2. ‘Customize it’ will give you more options to customize your book. Not only can you set the cover design, you get to specifically set how your tweets should appear: by year or by ID. And yes, you can even set a dedication in your book of tweets.
  3. And finally, you actually have the option of selling your Twournal to make a profit out of it. Fill up the form to have this option.
    Customize It

How Facebook's Graph Search will affect Google, Technology, and Privacy..-must read

How Facebook's Graph Search will affect Google, Technology, and Privacy

What has been both feared and expected is finally on its way: Facebook is building a better search; they're opening their vast stores of user data and giving us the ability to discover what’s inside. Lars Rasmussen, the mind that brought us Google Maps, is now hard at work creating Facebook’s new Graph Search, and from the looks of it, it’s going to put unprecedented power in the hands of its users.
“This will allow you to find friends of friends with common interests, friends of friends who like ballroom dancing,” said Tom Stocky, Product Director for Graph Search and former Google employee, ”and what this will do is make your community feel a bit smaller, make the world feel a bit smaller.”

Using innovative analytics, natural language processing, and Facebook’s massive stores of user data, Graph Search is opening up a whole new world of information to us, information about our lives and the people we share it with. The new interface includes a much larger search bar, which facebook is hoping will become your go to search for learning about your world.

From a user perspective, Graph Search is very simple. You ask a question like, “Who do I know in Chicago,” and Facebook shows a list with pictures of your friends and friends of friends who live in Chicago. The tool can search photo’s, interests, likes, personal connections, and location to given answers to questions like, “show me pictures of my family”, “what friends at work like skiing?”, “show me pictures of Christie and I”, “What link’s have a liked?”, “What restaurants do my friends like in Boston?”

“It's interesting because most people today don’t think about Facebook as a place to discover places they could go eat, or things that they could go do,” An excited Mark Zuckerberg stated, “but with this product it’s just so natural to be able to do that.”

Graph Search will change the way we engage with each other on facebook, and makes us consider some important questions.

Will Graph Search Challenge Google?
Some recent articles claim that this new search function will challenge Google’s dominance because Graph Search queries data Google can’t access. Google isn’t sweating this one, trust me.

If Graph Search exceeds expectations, it will become the go to place for searching about your friends; it will dominate social searching. But Google isn’t banking on social, sure you can search social using Google, but you can also search everything else. Facebook won’t ever be the go to search for expertise, it could be the go to for opinion. But when it comes time to searches for substance, for academic papers, current news, business, forums, government, and whatever else you need to know about, Google is the place we go and the place we will continue to go.

Now one way this could be used is to augment Bing, which is trying to use it’s facebook integration to increase market share.

Will the Technology Change how we Search?
Natural language processing and direct result returns highlight larger trends in internet usage and technology.

Natural language processing, first mass introduced through Siri, is growing in popularity. Companies like using it as a distinguishing feature because it makes their tools more user friendly. The problem is though, it requires people to be trained away from what they’ve been taught ever since we started searching. “What now I leave the ‘the’, “are”, ‘to’, and ‘for’ in there? ridiculous.” Yes, natural language will make things more user friendly, eventually, but as silly as it sounds this user friendly feature will be a hurdle for some users.

Just as natural language is part of a larger trend so is direct results, and given Facebook's data, it’s a no brainer. Instead of clicking links, you have what you searched for immediately. This works great for Facebook and shows the power of the system. Because of the limited number of categories and ways to search them, Facebook can show you what you want almost every time.

Google would love to be able to do this also and are working on direct results for certain types of searches. The most well known is the Knowledge Graph which shows the vital information about terms you’re searching.  Google wants to give you what you need, and now they try and do that without requiring you to leave their search.

Both these technologies allow Graph Search to function more fluidly and take advantage of larger trends in technology.

What about Privacy?
Facebook stores an incredible amount of data about you, on last count there were 84 categories of data Facebook holds. Not just what you share, but even things like what friend requests you denied and what tags you removed. Most of this data is currently invisible to us but is used to better target those annoying ads in your stream. Graph Search is opening up a sliver of this data to us: photo’s, location, interests, friends, and possibly a few others.

Regarding privacy, Facebook is going to try and do whatever they can to make people comfortable with Graph Search. So expect privacy settings to include the option to be invisible to strangers. However, regardless of your settings, this tool will make people more aware of the information they share. Awareness is always a good thing.

10 Amazing Facebook Facts You Probably Don't Know (or Don't Care)

The average user has 130 friends

The average user has 130 friends
Are you worried about your popularity? The average number of friends on Facebook is 130, and women tend to have somewhat more than men. Yet despite having hundreds of friends, most people only interact regularly with 4 to 7 people.

Over 25% of users have already been dumped via Facebook

Over 25% of users have already been dumped via Facebook
A June 2010 survey of 1,000 Facebook users -- 70% of whom were male -- found that 25% had been "dumped" via Facebook (via their significant other updating his or her relationship status).

Twenty-one percent of those surveyed said they would end a relationship by changing their Facebook relationship statuses to "single." While worrisome, the survey does show the majority of people do not split up via Facebook.

Facebook doesn't allow breastfeeding photos

Facebook doesn't allow breastfeeding photos
Facebook, the popular social networking website, provoked a squall of maternal wrath when it yanked photos of breastfeeding babies that women had posted on their personal profiles because it deemed them a little too revealing. This, by the way, from a website that allows photos of women in thongs and bikinis and of couples making out; it has even accepted paid advertising for a dating website that featured a topless model. (The topless ad was taken down after angry women noted the hypocrisy.)

In response to the terse notices alerting mothers that they were violating Facebook's decency policy, "lactivists" responded with a virtual nurse-in; 11,000 women posted photos of themselves breastfeeding and/or updated their profiles to read: "Hey, Facebook. Breastfeeding Is Not Obscene!"

The pro-breastfeeding group has attracted over 250,000 members. (Link 1 | Link 2)

Al Pacino was the first ‘face' on Facebook

Al Pacino was the first ‘face' on Facebook
Remember that sad-looking blue guy on Facebook's homepage who used to stare you down every time you went to log in? They did away with him in 2007, so if you were late to the social networking party, then you probably have absolutely no idea what we're talking about. Anyway according to David Kirkpatrick's The Facebook Effect , it turns out that that guy in the logo, created by Zuckerberg's friend and classmate Andrew McCollum, was none other than a young Al Pacino “covered with a fog of ones and zeros — the elementary components of digital media.” Crazy, right? Lighting a cigarette after sex? That's soooo last season.

Among under-35s, 36% admitted to "tweeting, texting and checking Facebook after sex." Forty percent of respondents admitted to doing so while driving, 64% said they do so at work, and 65% use these communication channels while on vacation. (Link)

Facebook users have lower grades than non-users
According to a new study by doctoral candidate Aryn Karpinski of Ohio State University and her co-author Adam Duberstein of Ohio Dominican University, college students who use the 800 million–member social network have significantly lower grade-point averages (GPAs) than those who do not.

The study, made in 2009, surveyed 219 undergraduate and graduate students and found that GPAs of Facebook users typically ranged a full grade point lower than those of nonusers — 3.0 to 3.5 for users versus 3.5 to 4.0 for their non-networking peers. It also found that 79% of Facebook members did not believe there was any link between their GPA and their networking habits. (Link)

Burger King gave away free burgers to users who unfriended people on Facebook

Burger King gave away free burgers to users who unfriended people on Facebook
In January 2009, an advertising campaign from Burger King titled “WHOPPER Sacrifice” rewarded Facebook users a free “Angry Whopper” for publicly deleting 10 friends, who would then receive a blunt message informing they were deleted for a free hamburger. The campaign, conceived by Burger King agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky and executed by Refresh Partners, used the tag line “Friendship Is Strong, but The Whopper Is Stronger.”

At press time the application had been downloaded more than 55,000 times and over 250,000 ‘friends' were sacrificed. (Link)

A man was arrested for openly asking his 13-year-old daughter for sex over Facebook

A man was arrested for openly asking his 13-year-old daughter for sex over Facebook
On perhaps one of the worst crimes perpetrated in Facebook, a Pennsylvania father was arrested for allegedly asking his teen daughter for sex over Facebook. John Forehand, 39, referred to himself as "Bad Daddy" in the online correspondence with his 13 year-old daughter, in which he openly propositioned her and made explicit sexual suggestions. Forehand told his daughter he had been having "inappropriate" dreams about her, and wrote to her, "I'll take very good care of my little girl."

The girl told her mother about the inappropriate Facebook messages, and she then alerted the police. The police captured Forehand by tricking him into coming to what he believed would be a meeting with his daughter. How sick is that? (Link)

Interesting Facts behind Facebook website

Interesting Facts behind Facebook website

Adding the number 4 to the end of Facebook’s website URL will automatically direct you to Mark Zuckerberg’s wall.
Website URL: www.facebook.com/4
Not sure why Zuckerberg chose the fourth ID number instead of number 1, but this is a quick and easy way to get to the original Facebook wall that is owned by its creator.
Adding the numbers 5 or 6 to the end of the URL will take you to the respective profiles of Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskovitz, Facebook co-founders and Mark’s former college roommates.
Tacking a 7 onto the web address leads to the profile of Arie Hasit, another good friend of Zuckerberg from his days at Harvard.
